Through Terskey Ala-TooEven if you are not a mountaineer, if you are fit you can get a fine taste of the Tien Shan in the ranges that enclose Lake Issyk-Kul. The finest, safest and most accessible treks are south from Karakol, into the Terskey Ala-Too. TREKKING PROGRAM Day 1. Your guide meets you at the airport in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan's capital, and takes you to a hotel, where you can recuperate after your long flight.
Day 2. The day starts with a detailed briefing of what the rest of the trip holds. Then we start our adventure! We drive 380 kilometers east along the shore of the famous Lake Issyk-Kul to Karakol, the administrative center of Issyk-Kul province. Day 3. Today we head to the Djyluu-Suu spa (60 km. from Karakol) and then trek (2 hours) to our first camping.
Day 4. Our destination for this day is Archa-Ter pass (3800 m.). We trek in the forest along the left bank of Kara-Batkan river about 6 hours and spend night on the moraine near the pass.
Day 5. We cross the Archa-Ter pass and descent along Asan-Tukum river (3 hours). Then we hike to the right bank of Djety-Oguz river and further along Telety river (2 hours). Today our camping is in the forest glade near Telety river.Day 6. Today we have to cross the Telety pass (3800 m.) in order to find ourselves in the next-door canyon, Karakol (7-8 hours).
Day 7. We have unforgettable opportunity to hike to the upper reaches of the Karakol gorge and take fantastic photos of snow-capped mountains including the highest summit of Terskey Ala-Too, Karakol Peak (5181 m.). Then we return to our camping (7-8 hours).
Day 8. Our destination for this day is the alpine lake Ala-Kol - it's worth to see! (5 hours).
Day 9. We cross the Ala-Kol pass (3800 m)., then hike along the Kel-Dike river by alpine grasslands and reach the Altyn-Arashan canyon (5 hours).Day 10. Today we hike to the Ak-Suu Peak (5020 m.) and return to our camping.
Day 11. We descent to Teplokluchenka village (5 hours) where our bus is waiting for us, we come back to the civilization and relax in a hotel at the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul (150 km.). Day 12. Unique Lake Issyk-Kul is ours to explore. It's nearly 700 m. deep, 170 km. long and 70 km. across and surrounded by mountain ranges of Kungey Ala-Too and Terskey Ala-Too. Today we have free time to swim, dive, enjoy the breathtaking views and just relax. After admiring the great outdoors we complete the day by watching a Kyrgyz falk-show at the shore of the lake.
Day 13. Today we return to Bishkek (260 km.). We visit Historical museum and other sightseeing attractions in Bishkek. During dinner we take the unique opportunity to listen to the Manaschi (a singer performing the national Kyrgyz epos, Manas).
